Selling a Historic Home in New Jersey? Your Home Deserves More Than Ordinary Marketing.

Selling a Historic Home in New Jersey? Your Home Deserves More Than Ordinary Marketing.

There is something extraordinary about a home that has stood for generations.

The craftsmanship. The architectural details. The patina that only generations of memories can create. The way sunlight moves through original windows, illuminating rooms that have witnessed decades, sometimes centuries, of life.

These are the qualities that make historic homes so special. And they're exactly the qualities that deserve to be celebrated and highlighted when it's time to sell your historic home in New Jersey.

At Borcherding + Borcherding, a mother-daughter real estate team, we've built our approach around thoughtful, design-focused marketing for distinctive, historic and old homes throughout New Jersey.

From the historic villages of Hunterdon County to the established communities of Somerset, Morris, and Warren counties, we understand that selling an older home requires more than a sign in the yard and a standard set of listing photographs that most realtors use.

It requires seeing what makes a home extraordinary—and knowing how to ensure others see it, too.

Not Every Realtor Sees a Historic Home the Same Way

A historic home is not a new construction property, and it shouldn't be marketed like one.

Its appeal may lie in the original wide-plank floors, a beautifully preserved staircase, intricate millwork, a centuries-old stone fireplace, or the proportions of rooms designed in another era.

These are not simply features to include in an MLS description. They're the details that create an emotional connection with the right buyer.

As Realtors who appreciate historic architecture and design, we take the time to understand each home's individual character before developing a marketing strategy.

We consider its architectural style, history, setting, natural light, and the elements that distinguish it from other properties on the market.

Whether we're preparing a Victorian in Oldwick, an antique farmhouse in Hunterdon County, or a character-filled home in one of Somerset County's established neighborhoods, our goal remains the same: To create a presentation that feels as distinctive as the home itself.

We ensure prospective buyers recognize its beauty before they ever step through the front door.

Photography Is Not an Afterthought. It's at the Heart of What We Do.

One of the most important distinctions of working with Borcherding + Borcherding is that our photography is not simply another service we outsource.

I'm Haley, one half of our mother-daughter team, and I'm also the photographer behind our thoughtfully curated listing imagery.

My approach is rooted in architectural and editorial photography. I don't simply walk through a home, photograph each room, and call it a day.

I study the space. I look at how the light enters a room, how the architecture reveals itself from different perspectives, and how thoughtful styling can create an image that feels both beautiful and authentic.

I want the photographs to capture not just what a home looks like, but what makes it feel special.

We photograph homes in their best light—literally.

Natural light can completely transform a space.

A room that feels soft and inviting in the morning may feel dramatically different in the late afternoon. A historic exterior may reveal its architectural details most clearly at a particular time of day, while the warm glow of an evening photograph can create an entirely different emotional connection.

That's why we take the time to photograph our listings at different times of day, when appropriate, to capture the most beautiful natural light each space has to offer.

We may return to a property to photograph its exterior when the sun is in the ideal position, revisit an interior when the light is just right, or capture a different perspective that better communicates the home's character. It's an intentional process that requires time, patience, and an understanding of both photography and architecture.

Every Detail Matters Before the Camera Comes Out

Beautiful photography begins long before the first photograph is taken.

We work closely with our sellers to prepare their homes for the market, considering everything from furniture placement and styling to paint colors, lighting, and the small details that make a space feel inviting.

For historic homes, that preparation requires a particularly thoughtful approach.

That might mean rearranging furniture to highlight an original fireplace, simplifying a room so its architectural details can shine, or introducing styling that complements the home's history while appealing to today's buyers.

We help sellers determine which improvements are worth making, which original features deserve to remain untouched, and how to balance historic charm with modern expectations.

Our preparation and marketing services may include:

  • Thoughtful pre-listing consultations and home styling

  • Recommendations for improvements that enhance marketability

  • Professional editorial and architectural photography

  • Drone photography and video, where appropriate

  • Carefully written listing descriptions that communicate a home's unique story

  • Targeted digital and social media marketing

  • Access to Coldwell Banker's broader marketing resources and network

Every decision is made with the same intention: to present your home in a way that honors its character and helps it stand apart.

Historic Homes That Capture Attention Far Beyond the MLS

Our historic listings have attracted attention from local press and reached more than 100,000 viewers across social media platforms.

That attention is a reflection of the way we approach our work. Rather than relying solely on conventional real estate marketing, we create imagery and content that people genuinely want to engage with, share, and remember.

Our photography is designed to feel at home in an architectural or interiors publication, while still giving prospective buyers an authentic understanding of the property. We believe beautiful, intentional presentation creates opportunities for a home to reach audiences beyond those actively scrolling through real estate listings.

And for a distinctive property, that broader exposure can be particularly valuable. While views and press attention don't guarantee a sale or a particular price, they demonstrate the potential of compelling visual storytelling to generate interest in a home.

A Special Connection to the Historic Homes of Oldwick and Hunterdon County

Oldwick is one of those places where architecture, history, and a sense of community come together beautifully.

Its historic homes are part of what makes the village so distinctive, and we've been fortunate to work with homeowners who have entrusted us with bringing some of these special properties to market. Our experience marketing prominent historic homes along Old Turnpike Road has reinforced our appreciation for the care required to present these properties.

From ornate Queen Anne Victorians with wraparound porches and original woodwork to antique homes with remarkable architectural character, we approach each listing with an understanding of what makes it unique.

We also recognize that many owners have spent years, sometimes decades, maintaining, restoring, and caring for these homes. When they decide to sell, they want to know that the person representing their property appreciates that investment. We take that responsibility seriously.

Our goal is to ensure that the care a homeowner has put into their property is reflected in the care we put into its presentation.

Selling Historic and Architecturally Distinctive Homes Throughout Northern and Central NJ

Our approach extends well beyond Oldwick. We work with homeowners across four New Jersey counties, bringing the same thoughtful preparation, design perspective, and editorial photography to each property.

Hunterdon County

From Tewksbury and Oldwick to Clinton, High Bridge, Flemington, Frenchtown, and surrounding communities, Hunterdon County is home to a remarkable collection of antique farmhouses, Victorians, historic estates, and architecturally distinctive properties.

Somerset County

In Basking Ridge, Bernards Township, Bridgewater, and neighboring towns, we help homeowners highlight the craftsmanship, character, and individuality of older homes while positioning them for today's market.

Morris County

Morris County offers everything from historic village homes to distinctive country properties. We bring a design-focused perspective to marketing older homes in communities such as Washington Township and surrounding areas.

Warren County

Across the county's rural communities, we appreciate the historic farmhouses, period homes, and unique properties that contribute to Warren County's architectural landscape.

Together, we work closely with our clients throughout the process—from the initial home evaluation and preparation strategy to photography, marketing, showings, negotiations, and closing.
